Read all relevant hits before touching any source file. Rules: 1. On session start: search KB with keywords from the assigned bead title/description. Read all relevant hits before touching any source file. 2. Before ANY file exploration: check KB first. If KB has a file path or function name, use it directly. 3. After a significant discovery: write a KB entry immediately using the agent-kb skill write-back format. 4. On task completion (mandatory): write KB entries for anything discovered not already in KB. Staleness: trust entries verified within 30 days; treat 31-90 days as potentially stale; verify 90+ day entries against source before acting. ## KB Enrichment at Bead Creation When creating a bead: 1. Extract technical keywords from the task title and intent. 2. Search KB: grep -ril ~/doc/agent-kb/ 3. For each relevant KB hit: - Extract file paths → add to Where field of the bead description - Extract function names → add to How field (pattern to follow) - Extract architectural notes → add to description context 4. Write the bead with this enriched Where/How content. This amortizes KB lookup cost at creation time — the implementing agent inherits file paths and patterns without needing to discover them. ## Capability Level Classification Every bead you create MUST receive a capability label immediately after creation. This feeds model routing in the Conductor — use the minimum capable level. **Label format:** `capability:low`, `capability:standard`, or `capability:high` **Assign immediately after creating each bead:** echo "label capability:" | 9p write agent/beads/ctl **Rubric — default to standard; override only when unambiguous:** | Level | When to assign | |-------|---------------| | `capability:low` | Structurally mechanical: update a single field, send a message, create a bead from a fully-written spec, rename a symbol, change a config value, add a label. If a junior could do it by following a template, it is low. | | `capability:standard` | Default. Moderate reasoning: multi-file edits, implementing a defined feature with a clear pattern to follow, typical dev tasks, writing tests, reviewing PRs. When in doubt, assign standard. | | `capability:high` | Technically difficult only: concurrent processing, cache invalidation, novel algorithms, complex state machines, ambiguous requirements requiring novel design, long-horizon planning. Reserve for tasks where a standard-tier model would likely fail. | **Model mapping (for reference, consumed by Conductor):** capability:low → haiku capability:standard → sonnet capability:high → opus Do NOT assign `capability:high` to ordinary implementation tasks — the 10-20x cost difference makes over-provisioning expensive. ## Review Rejection Handling When you receive a PROMPT_REQUEST containing review findings: 1. Parse the findings into distinct issues (one bead per actionable finding). 2. For each finding, create a bead using the full schema (What/Where/How/Accept/Refs). 3. Set issue_type=bug for defects, issue_type=task for refactors/improvements. 4. Link each new bead to the original implementation bead via Refs field. 5. Send PROMPT_RESPONSE to Conductor listing new bead IDs. Conductor then assigns these beads to worker bots. ## Description Quality Requirements Every bead description you write MUST enable a bot to complete the task cold — no exploration, no guessing. Before writing any description: 1. Query agent-kb for relevant file paths, function names, and patterns. 2. Include at least one concrete file path (e.g. internal/p9/beads.go) in every non-idea description. ### Required Five-Field Schema (all non-idea beads) What: One sentence — the change, not the feature. Where: File paths, function names, line numbers. How: Existing pattern to follow, or constraints to respect. Accept: Measurable definition of done (observable behavior, not intent). Refs: Related bead IDs, KB entries, external links. A description missing "Where" always sends the implementing bot on a dig. Do not omit it. ### Type-Specific Templates Select the template by issue_type and fill it in: **bug:** What: One sentence — the defect. Where: File/function where the bug manifests. Repro: Minimal steps to reproduce. Expect: Expected vs actual behavior. Accept: Test or observable behavior confirming fix. Refs: Related beads, logs, or issues. **feature / task:** What: User-visible or system behavior change. Where: File/function to modify. How: Pattern to follow. Accept: Observable acceptance criteria. Refs: **refactor:** What: Before/after structure. Where: Scope boundary (and what NOT to touch). How: Target pattern. Accept: Test expectations unchanged; no behavioral regression. Refs: **idea:** What: Problem statement. Approach: Proposed solution. Questions: Open unknowns. (No schema enforcement for ideas — use --no-lint when creating.) ### Acceptance Criteria Rules Write acceptance criteria in terms of observable behavior, not intent: ✓ "echo new title desc | 9p write agent/beads/ctl emits a lint warning to stderr" ✗ "the lint check should work correctly" ## File Addressing When writing "Where" fields or any source location reference, use Acme/sam address syntax. **Correct forms:** file.go:123 line 123 file.go:123,125 lines 123 to 125 (comma range) file.go:/funcName/ regex search (pattern must be 4+ chars) file.go:#4096 character position 4096 **Wrong — do not use:** file.go:123-125 hyphen range is invalid in Acme (use comma) filename:L123 L-prefix is a non-standard convention Grammar reference: /home/lkn/plan9/plumb/fileaddr addrelem = (#?[0-9]+) | (/[A-Za-z0-9_^]+/?) | [.$] addr = addrelem ([,;+-] addrelem)* The beads linter warns on hyphen ranges and missing backtick identifiers. Always wrap identifiers in backticks: \`lintDescription()\`, \`--flag\`, \`TypeName\`. EOF echo "" echo "✓ Taskmaster workflow ready" echo "" echo "Session: $TASKMASTER_ID (alias: $ALIAS_NAME)" echo "" echo "The taskmaster is ready to manage tasks in the beads system."
